Accessibility statement

This service is built to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA and Section 508.

How the form is built

  • Every question has a visible label. No field relies on placeholder text.
  • Errors appear beside the field and in a summary at the top that links to each field.
  • Answers are checked when you leave a field, not as you type.
  • Focus moves to the question heading when the step changes.
  • Help text opens on click or tap and can be closed again. Nothing depends on hover.
  • There is no CAPTCHA.

Reading and navigating

  • The whole service can be used with a keyboard, and focus outlines are never removed.
  • Navigation appears in the same order and place on every page.
  • Text can be resized to 200% and the page reflows to a single column.
  • Color is never the only way information is given.
  • Animation is limited, and the reduce-motion setting is respected.

Known limitations

Some journeys, such as data search and file upload, have not yet been fully tested with assistive technology. We are working on this and welcome reports of any problem you find.

Tell us about a problem

If something here is hard to use, contact VAERS and tell us the page you were on and what happened. We aim to reply within five working days.
